Atlantic City residents gather to celebrate community storytelling

Dozens of Atlantic City residents, activists, artists, and other community members filed into the Leadership Studio last month to celebrate the success of Stories of Atlantic City, a collaborative reporting project that uses restorative narratives to uplift community stories that would otherwise have gone overlooked.

The project officially launched in March with the goal of putting local residents in charge of deciding which stories about Atlantic City get told. The project was based on the simple premise that a group of community members would go out and find good stories, and a group of media outlets would agree to tell those stories.

After the first batch of stories published on May 14, members of the community were invited to a public mixer event on May 21 to hear a panel discussion about the impacts of the collaboration and have a conversation about how the stories we tell about our community impact our lives.

Roughly 45 people attended the event, which was held at The Leadership Studio in Atlantic City and included live music, a buffet and wine bar, and free admission for local residents.
